The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived Australian forward Luke Travers after completing a three-team trade on Sunday.

The Cavs moved $130m star De’Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings ahead of the February 5 trade deadline.

In exchange, they received German guard Dennis Schroder and 26-year-old shooting guard Keon Ellis.

The Chicago Bulls, meanwhile, picked up power forward Dario Saric’s contract from the Kings, as well as two second-round picks, to make the trade work financially.

The move bolsters Cleveland’s back court, saves them some money, and gives them defensive pieces for their looming playoff run.

But to bring in the pair they had to make a cut and that has come in the form of Travers.

The Australian 24-year-old was on a two-way contract with the Cavaliers. He has been predominantly with their G-League affiliate.

He has also spent time with the Perth Wildcats and Melbourne United in the NBL, while remaining tied to the Cavs.

They initially selected Travers with the 56th pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

Despite showing he was more than capable at the G-League level, the 198cm West Australian barely featured at NBA level.

Travers played 16 games for Cleveland in the 2024-2025 season, and added another 16 this season.

His most recent appearance was on December 20, playing six minutes against the Bulls.

Travers averaged 18.1 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the G-League for the Cleveland Charge this season.

He will likely be in the mix for the Boomers’ 2027 FIBA World Cup squad. He represented Australia in 2022 during World Cup qualification games.
