I’ve said it several times over the last few months: I love pettiness. And after watching LIV Golf’s latest promotion for its upcoming season, I think the Saudi-backed circuit feels the same way.
In the video, LIV cut up a bunch of clips of PGA TOUR players and golf legends simply saying the words “LIV Golf,” with an endcard that reads, “Everyone’s Favorite Golf League.”
Now, I appreciate the petty move—the PGA TOUR did something similar with its season-long campaign—but the folks on that side of golf’s aisle don’t have a leg to stand on here.
Not only were all its offseason signings mediocre (at best), but two of its biggest names in Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed decided to leave and come back to the TOUR. LIV obviously isn’t their favorite league! Plus, the league’s posterchild, Bryson DeChambeau, continues to cloud his future with ominous quotes about the direction LIV is headed.
So, instead of promoting its upcoming season with its own members, LIV used everyone else.
Coping with failure is tough to do, so when in doubt, create a video people will talk about, right?
