Deadline day is all about player movement, but it doesn’t mean Liverpool’s manager situation can’t be discussed.
Liverpool’s performances have been steadily improving, winning by an aggregate of 10-1 over the last two games.
But don’t be fooled. Arne Slot is still under the microscope.

After Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid exit, there has been an obvious candidate to replace the Dutchman should he fail to correct course.
That notion has been confirmed in a deadline day manager update.
Xabi Alonso nailed on for Liverpool job if Arne Slot fails
It seems obvious to say Alonso is favourite to take over at Liverpool.
He is, after all, a Liverpool legend who is adored by fans.
But as it stands, Slot is the manager. If the season was to end as it began, though, the events that would unfold are clear.
As Matt Law writes for The Telegraph: “Liverpool will almost certainly move for Alonso, who played for the club for five years, if they are forced into a managerial change with Arne Slot under pressure to secure Champions League qualification and go far in this season’s competition.”

The goalpost is clear. Slot has to secure Champions League qualification if he is to have a hope of retaining his post. And even that might not be enough, depending on how we fare in Europe.
Xabi Alonso could pick up where he left off at Leverkusen
If the worst is to happen and Slot does indeed go, Alonso could be coming to Anfield to a squad tailor-made to his vision.
The obvious point is that Liverpool signed two of his best players at Leverkusen in Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.

Not only that, but the wing-back situation is perfect for his 3-5-2 setup, and Liverpool signing Jeremy Jacquet means they have a minimum of four top-class centre-backs to make up the back three.
Alonso would have no issues moulding the squad in his image, but if you ask this writer, he hopes Slot turns the season around, wins the Champions League, and kicks on next season.
Not asking for much, right?
