ABILENE, Texas – Tarleton State Women’s Basketball plays three games in five days this week, beginning with game two of its in-state rivalry at Abilene Christian Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Moody Coliseum.
The Texans lost the first matchup with the Wildcats 64-59 on Jan. 8. The Texans won their 1,000th game as a program on Jan. 31, defeating Utah Tech in St. George 63-45.
Leading scorer Gia Adams is six points away from cracking 1,500 career points. She would be the only active player in the WAC to accomplish that feat in 2025-26.

The Texans picked up their 1,000th win as a senior college dating back to the program’s infancy on Jan. 31, 2026 in a 63-45 decision at Utah Tech.
The women’s basketball program at Tarleton State has a tradition-rich history.
Starting as a junior college in the 1920s, Tarleton State rose to a senior college in the modern era starting in 1968.
The Texans have earned multiple trips to the AIAW, NAIA and NCAA Division II national tournaments.
Tarleton State has had five 20+ win seasons over the last decade and had 23 seasons overall recording at least 20 wins.
The Texans have had a winning record in 36 of the 53 years of the program.
STRONG STARTERS
All five starters (Gia Adams, Jakoriah Long, Kyriana Jones, Shadasia Brackens and Elodie Lutbert) have accounted for the majority of Tarleton State’s scoring this season.
When those five start, the starters have scored 76.6% of the Texans’ points. Tarleton State has an 8-3 overall record with those five.
Those five starters all scored in double figures in a win against Southern Utah (1/15), combining for 67 of the Texans’ 81 points.
The starting five of Adams, Long, Jones, Brackens and Lutbert have all scored in double figures in three games this season.
All five starters scored in double figures in back-to-back games on Dec. 2-7 (at Mississippi Valley State, vs. Texas A&M-San Antonio). It was the first time since Feb. 16-18, 1989.
The Texans have used seven different starting lineup combinations, all accounting for over half of the team’s points.
Tarleton State’s starting five has scored at least 84% of the team’s points in two out of the last three games.
DOMINANT DEFENSE
Defense wins games and the Texans have taken that to heart.
Tarleton State’s defense held its opponent to under 50 points for the fifth time at Utah Tech (1/31), leading the Texans to their 1,000th win in program history with a 63-45 decision.
The Texans have a 4-1 record this season when they hold the opposition to under 50 points.
The Texans held UTA to just 37 points on Jan. 21, the fewest in a WAC game since joining the conference in 2020. It is the fewest points the Texans have allowed in conference play since Feb. 29, 2020 (37 at Texas A&M-Kingsville).
The Texans held UTA to 0-for-15 shooting in the fourth quarter on Jan. 21. It is the first time since Dec. 4, 2021 Tarleton State held a team to 0% shooting in a quarter (0-for-11 vs. Arlington Baptist, 1st quarter).
Since women’s basketball went to the fourth quarter format in 2015-16, the team never held a team to 0% shooting in the 4th quarter before the Jan. 21 performance against UTA. The closest the Texans got was on Dec. 12, 2020, when they held Champion Christian to 1-for-14 shooting in the fourth quarter.
Tarleton State also held Mississippi Valley State to 1-for-16 shooting (6%) in the second quarter at Mississippi Valley State (12/2).
