NEW BRAUNFELS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team sits in fourth place after the first day of the Texas State Invitational on Monday at Landa Park Golf Course. 
 

The Vaqueros opened with a first round 300 before improving by five strokes in the second with a 295 for a two-round 595. UTRGV sits ahead of fellow Southland Conference opponents UIW, East Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Lamar.
 
Junior Natalia Rodriguez led the way for UTRGV as she sits tied for 11th with a two-round total of 146. Rodriguez opened with a first round 75 before posting a one-under 71. Sophomore Miriam Barcalova is tied for 18th with a two-round total of 148 after posting a first round 73 and a second round 75. 
 
Sophomore Zoe Hobbs carded back-to-back rounds of 75 as she is tied for 25th with a two-round total of 150. Sophomore Pitchayapa Pungpho is tied for 32nd with a two-round total of 151 after opening with a first round 77 and then improving with a second 74. 
 
Sophomore Kieli Saenz, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 42nd with a two-round total of 153 with rounds of 76 and 77. Senior Cristina Galban is tied for 80th with a two-round total of 167 with rounds of 88 before posting a second round 79.
 
Texas State holds the team lead after the first day with a two-round total of 570 after posting rounds of 294 and 276. Tarleton’s Louise Depadt holds the individual lead with a two-round total of 134 after rounds of 70 and 64.
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Wednesday for the final round.
