This bulk-billing medical centre has been on the forefront for community health, and they’re expanding their second business.
First Point Health Care opened their medical centre in the Launceston suburb of Newstead in February 2025 and also operate award-winning Beaconsfield Family Medical Practice.
After not even a year of operating, they plan to expand the business to the building next door to extend the medical centre and open a pharmacy.
General practitioner Dr Prashanth Reddy runs both facilities, and said he had built his businesses on accessible health care.
“Healthcare should never be a luxury,” he said.
“Every person – regardless of background, income, or postcode – deserves access to high-quality care.”
Even with the smaller facility, Newstead has 2000 patients since opening.
The development, off Belhaven Crescent, will double the medical hub space.
The existing area is 1306 sq/m and the proposed medical centre is 1771 sq/m.
It will add three more offices, six additional consulting rooms and a pathology space, according to the plans submitted.
There will be a total of 14 consulting rooms for the Newstead medical hub.
A new waiting room will also be included in the extension.
Parking issues have been flagged, but the document noted, it was would be “rare” for all GPs to be working at the same time and a GP hub experienced a “high turnover” of visitors and car parks would open up more frequently.
There are 31 parks on site, and 48 are required.
There are also 13 on-street car parks around the site.
