Skills Solutions Australia (SSA) has announced the expansion of its operations with the launch of a dedicated recruitment and labour-hire arm, introducing an evidence-based approach to graduate and early-career recruitment.
The new model builds on SSA’s existing internship and workforce development programs and is designed to create an ongoing talent pipeline rather than one-off placements. Instead of relying on CVs and interviews alone, candidates are assessed on demonstrated workplace performance, capability and cultural fit.
Under the approach, employers gain access to job-ready talent who have already proven their professionalism and ability to contribute to real work environments. This reduces hiring risk, shortens time-to-hire and lowers recruitment costs, particularly for employers seeking early-career professionals.
“Our goal is to create a talent pipeline for Tasmania by connecting employers with graduates who are genuinely job ready, not just qualified,” said Julia Lane, CEO of Skills Solutions Australia.
The recruitment pathways offered include internship-to-hire arrangements, short-term contracts and direct permanent placements, allowing employers to respond flexibly to both immediate workforce needs and longer-term capability building.
Lane says “the model has a strong focus on ICT, digital, data and professional roles, supporting areas of growing demand across Tasmania’s economy. Employers engage as partners in the recruitment process, with candidates matched not only to technical requirements but also to team dynamics, organisational culture and project needs.”
By integrating recruitment with its existing internship and workforce development initiatives, SSA aims to strengthen local talent retention and support more informed hiring decisions. Lane said, “The expansion reflects a shift away from transactional recruitment towards pipeline-based workforce development that aligns education, skills and employer demand.”
The new recruitment arm is designed to support long-term workforce capability in Tasmania by helping employers access emerging talent while creating clearer pathways from education into employment.
