Marc Marquez: “Still 3 weeks until Buriram”
This is what Marc Marquez had to say about his shoulder recovery after leading the timesheets on day one:
“I just did very short runs. 2,3 laps, to avoid extra fatigue. I know from experience, coming back from injury, that if on the first day I use too much energy, the next two days I can suffer a lot.Â
“Tomorrow [day 2] I hope to feel the same… But the target is Buriram, which is still 3 weeks away.
“I try to take care of my physical condition because I know when I feel good, the speed is there. When I don’t, the speed isn’t there.Â
“This test will be the best training for Buriram. After this test, I will try to analyse which is my weak point, work in the next weeks, and Buriram will be a bit better.”
But did he expect to be so fast on day one?
“No. It was a surprise. But it’s not the most important thing. I put a new tyre in the last part of the session – me, di Giannantonio and Vinales – but Alex [Marquez] did the fast lap in the worst hour [for the heat], which was 1pm. Pecco also did his best at 4pm with a lot of heat. Malaysia is like this always.Â
“I’ll just try to be there in the front group. Last year, I remember here Pecco and Alex were much faster than me. But then I know what I need to be competitive over all the calendar.”
Marquez began day two 15th on the timesheets in Session 1, having completed 30 laps.
