The bathtub scene in the new trailer for Bridgerton season 4, part 2 has caused a stir.Bridgerton season four part two teased in trailer

Bridgerton fans are gearing up for some steamy scenes in season four, part two, which is due to drop on Netflix on February 26 and has a brand new trailer. While part one set up a Cinderella-esque story for Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), part two will see the pair take their relationship to the next level.

At the end of the first half of the season, Benedict realised he did in fact have feelings for maid Sophie, despite still being on the hunt for the mystery woman in silver he met at his mother’s masquerade ball. He was still none the wiser that Sophie was in fact the mystery woman he had been looking for all along.

[Spoiler warning for Bridgerton season 4 part 1.] He had an interesting proposition for her, asking her to be his mistress, but Sophie was less enthusiastic about the idea and she was clearly offended by the offer. Yet, the burning desire they have for one another appears to be too much to bear in the newly-released part two trailer, which hints that an iconic moment from Julia Quinn’s novels will be making its way to the small screen.

In the book An Offer from a Gentleman, Sophie and Benedict share the ultimate racy encounter in a bathtub. Sharing the new teaser on X, formerly Twitter, Bridgerton’s official Netflix account said: “It has been said, the most anticipated moments are often times worth the wait.”

Fans saw images of a steaming bathtub and they knew exactly what was coming, with @cassahcassou saying: “THE BATHTUB SCENE!!!!! I CAN’T BREATHE AAAAAAAH.” Sophie and Benedict are seen staring at one another from opposite ends of the bath, by a fire, before they start to kiss.

In Quinn’s novel, the iconic scene takes place in the latter half of the novel after a huge turning point for Sophie, and is hailed as one of the most important scenes in the book.

With viewers keen for more steamy scenes, this one is likely to be the one major sex scene of the season, but we will endeavour not to give too much away.

Showrunner Jess Brownell already hinted at what fans can expect in part two during Shondaland’s 12 Days of Bridgerton series. She teased some highly anticipated moments, including the bathtub scene.

When asked about what hints or Easter eggs fans should look forward to, she said: “Can I say bathtub?” She added: “This season is tantalising in so many ways. We’ve got upstairs-downstairs, we’ve got fantasy meets reality, we’ve got forbidden romance, so take your pick. It’s a real platter of tantalising options.”

Viewers will have to wait and see whether the bathtub scene plays out in the same way it is depicted in the books. Some stark changes have already been made for the TV adaptation, notably regarding Sophie’s introduction to the Bridgerton household.

In the book, Benedict blackmails Sophie into taking a position as a servant to prevent her from leaving and he pressures her into becoming his mistress. Believing their class difference would make marriage unachievable, he used his position of power to get what he wanted.

In the Netflix series, Benedict’s proposition is a lot less forceful and up until now he has shown her kindness. There is no blackmail involved, just Benedict’s impulsive passion taking over.

Taking to the YouTube comments to discuss the latest trailer, @hienn68 said: “The bath tub scene… book readers iykyk.”

@elenawinslow2717 added: “The second I saw that bathtub….. ‘I KNOW THAT SCENE!! I KNOW THAT SCENE!!! OMFG they’re doing that scene’ and then I proceed to get lightheaded.”
