UFC fan favorite Nick Diaz has lofty goals for his planned return to the Octagon after a successful rehabilitation for substance abuse.
Nick Diaz’s last UFC comeback attempt was foiled due to undisclosed circumstances, followed by concerning footage of the star fighter that led to him checking into rehab for substance abuse. But after a successful stint in rehab, Diaz appears in great spirits as he plots another return to the Octagon.
Diaz hasn’t fought since a TKO defeat to UFC Hall of Famer Robbie Lawler at UFC 266. He was supposed to fight Vicente Luque in 2024 before withdrawing due to travel issues ahead of UFC Abu Dhabi.
Fight fans are mixed in wanting Diaz to fight again inside the Octagon at age 42. But Diaz has huge goals for his return to the cage as he plots a potential world championship win.
Nick Diaz calls world title ‘easy money’ in latest promised UFC comeback
In a recent interview at the Baja Rehab Center, Diaz revealed a lofty goal for his latest comeback attempt.
“I see myself becoming world champion,” Diaz said.
“I think it’s easy money. It’s not like before. People are going to see a brand new me.” (h/t MMA Junkie)
Diaz was then asked about his past substance abuse and what’s next in his rehabilitation.
“For me, I just think that I wouldn’t have made it this far if I thought that there was something that could stop me,” Diaz said.
“That being the next guy I’m standing in front of or any obstacle. Substance abuse, right or wrong, I’m just very confident that I’m going to do better every year, every day.”
Diaz recently returned to training opposite longtime friend and teammate Jake Shields in California last month. While Nick’s relationship with his brother Nate Diaz remains strained after a recent social media rant, fans might not have to wait long for both Diaz brothers to fight again.
