If you love a good compact camera for your underwater photography, the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III should be right up there on your short list—that is, if you can get your hands on one. It seems that supply is struggling to keep up with demand: For example, Backscatter’s G7 X III listing states: “This item is currently on backorder with no ETA.” Still, there will soon be a compact that will be significantly harder to get hold of: Canon’s just-announced PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Apparently promised in “very limited” quantities, the PowerShot G7 X Mark III Anniversary Limited Edition is finished in a rather fetching graphite and sports an exclusive 30th anniversary logo on top. Otherwise, it’s exactly the same camera, but that is definitely no bad thing. With its 20MP Type 1 stacked CMOS image sensor, DIGIC 8 processor, and 24–100mm f/1.8–2.8 equivalent built-in zoom lens, the G7 X Mark III is one of the very best compacts around for underwater photography. (Depending on your needs, there are a few others you may want to consider.)
One caveat even if you are lucky enough to come across the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III Anniversary Limited Edition: It will set you back an impressive $1,300. You may, after all, want to consider paying $400 less for the standard black or silver one instead—once it’s back in stock.
