PRINCETON – A strong second half pushed the No. 23 Princeton Women’s Basketball Team over the Penn Quakers, 69-50, at Jadwin Gym on Friday evening.

A 11-3 sprint in the first quarter pushed Princeton’s lead to eight, 15-7, before settling with a 15-11 advantage after 10 minutes.

Penn finished off the first half with a 13-2 run to turn a nine-point deficit into a two-point advantage at halftime, 30-28.

Trailing by one, 34-33, the Tigers ripped off eight of the next 11 to go up five, 44-39. After the media timeout, head coach Carla Berube‘s team continued their hot streak, running off seven of nine to go up double digits, 51-41, for the first time with 1:15 remaining in the third quarter. The Tigers eventually led 52-43 as the fourth stanza got started.

The Tigers began the fourth frame with seven consecutive points, jumping ahead 16, 59-43. Penn never got closer.

Berube’s unit shot 50 percent in the second half (17-of-34), outscoring Penn, 41-20. Olivia Hutcherson led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting along with seven rebounds and five steals. Skye Belker hit four triples, contributing 16 points while Madison St. Rose added 15 points in the win.

Princeton improves to 19-2 overall and 7-1 in the Ivy League while Penn falls to 13-8 this season and 3-5 in conference action. The Tigers go back on the road next week to take on Columbia (Feb. 13) and Cornell (Feb. 14).
