A woman is dead after a car ploughed into a home in the inner-city Perth suburb of Rivervale late on Friday night.

Police said a yellow Ford Falcon sedan was travelling in a north-easterly direction on Alexander Road when it left the road and crashed into a house about 11.40pm.

He said the woman, from Nepal,  had been visiting family in Perth and described her as “really charming” and “loving”.

It is not uncommon for cars to crash into houses, but it is rare for the people inside them to be killed.

A teenage learner driver was jailed in 2011 after crashing into a house while under the influence of alcohol, killing a man inside, in the southern Perth suburb of Safety Bay.

Officers from Major Crash are investigating and are appealing for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.
