THE Holden Supercar involved in a frightening crash at the 2024 Adelaide 500 has been given a new lease on life and will soon return to racing.
Chassis 888A-050 was in the hands of then Super2 rookie Reuben Goodall when it slammed into the Turn 3 wall and proceeded to skate at such high speed that it partially exited the circuit after impacting the barriers at the end of the Turn 4 run-off area.
The car was in a bad enough state that it forced a chassis reshuffle to facilitate Triple Eight’s two-car Super2 program last year, with an ex-Shane van Gisbergen Commodore upgraded to ZB specification to fill the void.
That chassis, 888A-033, also ended up in an Adelaide wreckage following a mechanical failure for Jackson Walls during practice last year.
Both ‘050’ and ‘033’ have now undergone extensive rebuilds and will be the basis of Matt Stone Racing’s 2026 Super2 campaign, for Tommy Smith and Ayrton Hodson respectively. Both are testing today at Queensland Raceway.
The ex-Goodall car in particular was a monumental rebuild.
“It went to Triple Eight and got a lot of stuff replaced, so it was basically a brand-new chassis and then we painted in December and started putting it together the 1st of January,” MSR owner Matt Stone told V8 Sleuth.
“It is effectively a brand-new chassis because there wasn’t much left of the old one. That has come up a really nice car.”
Stone is confident in the resources assigned to his Dunlop Series squad.
“With our wildcard program last year, we committed to growing the staff base so that we could really do it properly and then this year we’re expanding on that with the Super2 program,” he said.

“Our goal is to have the Super2 program being run by 80 percent full-time staff at MSR and then supplementing it with contractors, which is probably the opposite percentages to most in the category.
“That gives us the strength to be able to really have top quality engineers and mechanics working on that program.
“So that’s all going very well, fully staffed and underway.”
The other 2025 Triple Eight Super2 car, 888A-039 which was raced by Ben Gomersall, has been purchased by Alice Buckley Motorsport.
Gomersall has joined Tickford Autosport while Triple Eight has quit the second-tier category to focus on its three-pronged Ford main game effort.
