ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Mount St. Mary’s men’s tennis dropped a 6-1 nonconference decision to Navy on Saturday afternoon.
Navy secured the opening doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Mount earned a victory at No. 2 doubles, as Nikolas Makris and Stefanos Pournaropoulous outlasted Etterbeek and Legaspi in a first-set tiebreaker to keep the doubles point contested.
In singles play, the Midshipmen claimed five of the six matches to clinch the contest. Mount St. Mary’s lone point came at No. 6 singles, where Luke Papayoanou delivered a dominant straight-set win, defeating Zach Giertz, 6-1, 6-1.
Several other singles matches were tightly contested, including a first-set tiebreaker at No. 5 before the match concluded due to retirement.
Up Next: The Mount travels to Wagner on February 16.
