Women’s Golf Earns Two Wins On Day 1 Of Oyster Shuck Match Play

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford women’s golf team earned two wins on the first day of the Oyster Shuck Match Play, hosted by The Citadel, Monday at the Charleston Municipal GCS.
 
Samford earned a 3-2 win over Winthrop in the first round and then took down High Point, 3.5-1.5 in the semifinals. Samford will now face Youngstown State in Tuesday’s championship round, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
 
In the win over Winthrop, Anika Richards earned a 5 & 4 win over Winthrop’s Iciar Canalejo. Gabi Nicastro defeated Constanca Mendonca, 2 & 1, while Grace Engel earned a 1 UP win over Emily Baker. Winthrop’s Alayna Friedt defeated Kate Joyner, 3 & 2, while the Eagles’ Maelle Dreyer defeated Anne Reaves Skinner, 2 & 1.
 

Against High Point, Richards defeated High Point’s Anais Arafi, 8 & 7. Engel earned a 2 & 1 win over Anna Howerton, while Nicastro defeated Ella Perna, 3 & 2. Joyner tied Makayla Grubb, while HPU’s Eva Lye defeated Skinner, 5 & 3.
