Supergirl, the CW’s hit action drama starring Glee’s Melissa Benoist and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Chyler Leigh, is now streaming in the UK on ITVX.

Following Kara Danvers (Benoist), the Kryptonian cousin of Superman, the series chronicles the highs and lows of her heroic attempts to protect her home on Earth, National City, and its citizens, from threats.

Supported by her friends, Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), Winslow Schott Jr. (Jeremy Jordan), and her adoptive sister, Alex (Leigh), Kara faces off against some of DC Comics’ most notorious villains, including Lex Luthor, Reign, and Agent Liberty.

Hailed as a “fierce and terrific series” by one fan on IMDb, Supergirl has received plenty of rave reviews.

Currently, season one holds a respectable rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics lauding its light-hearted and feel-good tone.

“What is refreshing is that this is a hero who operates mostly in the daylight and brings that sunshine along with her,” raved The Guardian.

“Supergirl… offers a delightful star, special-effects thrills and a big dose of girl power to broaden the superhero genre,” noted the Orlando Sentinel.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter wrote: “Make no mistake, Supergirl is important, but taking some of the weight off of her Kryptonian shoulders, it’s also just plain fun.”

Following the show’s premiere in 2015, Supergirl went on to run for six seasons, with the final instalment airing in 2021. Speaking about her role as Alex, Leigh told Awards Daily that it was a completely different experience from her work as Lexie on Grey’s Anatomy.

“I didn’t think that I’d be cut out for that. So many of the characters I’ve played have been pretty similar, like the Lexie Grey character,” she said.

“The majority of characters that I’ve played have the same mentality, and when the whole thing came up for me to be on Supergirl, I couldn’t even see it. My husband was the one who convinced me. He said, ‘No babe, I’m telling you right now, you’re going to be like the new Trinity.’ I was like, ‘Get out of here.’

“Cue to me jumping off a building, turning around, shooting someone,” the actor continued.

“For me, it’s been so much fun exploring a whole different side of myself and really understanding what I’m capable of.”

All six seasons of Supergirl are now available to stream in the UK on ITVX.
