GLIAC — The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2026 tennis spring season. Wayne State sophomore George Day and Davenport senior Skye Vandeleur were selected for recognition.
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: George Day, Wayne State
George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) of the No. 23-ranked Wayne State University men’s tennis team has been named GLIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after helping the Warriors to a 6-1 win over Walsh University. In doubles action, Day and his partner Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG – Martigny) downed Lukas Kohler and Ethan Milgan 6-3. In the No. 1 singles position, the sophomore dropped the first set 6-4 to WU’s Trias Monells and found himself trailing 4-0 in the second. The 2025 All-GLIAC honoree rallied in the second set, posting a 6-4 win followed by a 6-2 triumph in the third to claim victory.
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Skye Vandeleur, Davenport
Skye Vandeleur was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. The senior helped guide the Panthers to a 2-0 record in the first week of the spring weekend, going a perfect 4-0 (two singles and two doubles wins). Against Lawrence Tech on Friday (Feb. 6), Vandeleur teamed with Sienna Opray to secure a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. While in singles, she secured a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. While against Northwood on Saturday (Feb. 7), she picked up another win at No. 1 doubles and a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 at No. 1 singles.
