Lester Martínez Received Recognition for the Best Fight of 2025
Lester Martínez, who last year contended for the WBC interim middleweight belt against Christian Mbilli, was present at the traditional Martes de Café to receive recognition for the “2025 Fight of the Year.”
During the conference, a video was screened showing highlights of his bout against Mbilli, as well as passages from his professional career.
The fight between Christian Mbilli and the Guatemalan Lester Martínez, held on September 13, 2025, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, was classified as an absolute war and undoubtedly the best fight of the year.
Lester commented: “Thanks to Mauricio and the WBC for the support, and to Mexico for the welcome. Mexico and its fighters are my inspiration. I appreciate the recognition for the fight of the year and I hope the next time I am in Mexico, it will be to receive the world title.”
For his part, promoter Roberto Díaz commented: “We want to request the opportunity from the WBC to compete for the interim title since Mbilli will not be available for the rematch anytime soon; I ask the WBC to take us into account for this bout.”
“It is an important matter and we will gladly discuss this issue with the WBC Board of Governors to have an answer as soon as possible. Lester has the merit, so he will be extensively taken into consideration,” commented Mauricio Sulaimán.
