Harry Maguire looks incredibly likely to see a new contract with Manchester United in the coming months, as Michael Carrick continues to put his faith in the centre-half. The England international will be 33 years old when his current deal expires this summer, as he enters the twilight years of his career.

Given that he is understood to currently receive around £180,000 per week in compensation, United may look to slim down his salary as they hope to reach an agreement with him. The club will also need to strike a deal with his camp on the length of his new contract.

The England international has been a key player in Carrick’s set-up at Old Trafford and is now set to have his stay extended after his impressive performances in recent weeks. The Daily Mail claim Maguire’s camp held talks with AC Milan in January but the player wants to stay and looks likely to sign a new deal.

Maguire has played a part in each of the interim head coach’s matches in charge of United since his arrival last month, starting alongside Lisandro Martinez in victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham.

Should Maguire secure a new contract with his club of seven years, it would mark an incredible turnaround from the scenario he faced just a number of years ago, having been stripped of his captaincy by Erik ten Hag before floating in and out of Ruben Amorim’s starting XI.

Maguire’s circumstances are viewed differently from team-mate Casemiro, who has announced that he will part ways with Manchester United when his own contract expires this summer. The Brazilian defensive midfielder has thrived at the Theatre of Dreams since his arrival from Real Madrid in 2022, racking up 149 appearances in the engine room.

However, the 33-year-old announced earlier this year that he will part ways with the Reds this summer, taking to Instagram to share the saddening news. He wrote: “Knowing when stages come to an end.

“Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever. Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal.

“Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”

The decision came despite the fact that Casemiro holds a contract extension clause in his current deal, should he start 35 matches or more this season.

Both Casemiro and Maguire will be looking to make it five wins in five matches under Carrick on Tuesday evening, when the Reds travel to the London Stadium to take on a resurgent West Ham United.

At the time of writing, the Reds sit fourth in the Premier League standings with 12 wins, eight draws and just five losses this season. A win will see the club leapfrog Aston Villa into third on goal difference, although the Villans could reclaim their position on Wednesday when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion on home turf.
