WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight title holder Shakur Stevenson expressed doubt that former UFC star Jon Jones could succeed in boxing.
Streamer Adin Ross asked Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson in a Tuesday livestream on his YouTube channel whether they thought Jones would “dominate in boxing.”
“Hell no,” Stevenson responded.
Ross then asked about Ilia Topuria, to which Stevenson answered: “Tell him to come fight me. I don’t care. Tell him to come fight me.”
Crawford added, “UFC is good for what they do, and we’re good for what we do. You’ve got to think, if I can’t whoop you with my hands, I could kick you, I could take you down. It’s a whole different mental capacity than just kicking and punching.”
Stevenson moved up one weight class to 138 pounds in order to claim his WBO super lightweight title by defeating Teofimo Lopez Jr. on Jan. 31.
The WBC announced on Feb. 5 that Stevenson had been stripped of his lightweight title due to the win. Stevenson, who had held the WBC title since 2023, criticized the organization’s decision on social media.
Jones, who weighed in around 237 pounds for his last KO/TKO of Sipe Miocic in November 2024, confirmed in November that he had rejected a chance to fight Tom Aspinall. He recently told Helen Yee that he thinks he “could be done” with his fighting career.
