CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Carolina picked up a pair of dominating, non-conference wins by beating UNC Asheville, 4-0, and UNCG, 5-0 in a doubleheader on Tuesday on the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Courts at the Chewning Tennis Center.
Without losing a set in either match, the Tar Heels improved to 5-2 this season. UNC Asheville dropped to 2-1 while UNCG fell to 0-4.
How it Happened — Doubles vs. UNC Asheville
• The Tar Heel freshman duo of Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer, ranked #89 in the latest ITA rankings, cruised, 6-1, past Trevor Gray and Jip Mens by a 6-1 count to start the afternoon.
• Minutes later, Roan Jones and Anthony Wright won their second match in three days by a 6-2 score over Cian Ingles and Daniel Franco-Key to clinch the doubles point.
• At No. 1 doubles, Nick Mangiapane and Chris Xu downed Harrison Cooper and Griffin Lovern, 6-4, to complete doubles play.
How it Happened — Singles vs. UNC Asheville
• Schinnerer cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Gray to give Carolina a 2-0 lead.
• Jones put the Tar Heels ahead, 3-0, with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Franco-Key.
• Constantinos Djakouris won his second clinching match of the year, 6-1, 6-1, over Cooper to seal the 4-0, shutout victory.
How it Happened — Doubles vs. UNCG
• Carolina won the doubles point for the sixth time in seven dual matches this season.
• Jones and Wright started the match with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Hector Nissen and Sammy Presser.
• Not long thereafter, Xu and Mangiapane dominated the Spartans’ John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz, 6-1, to clinch the point.

• The Tar Heels got singles victories from Wright, Djakouris, Jones and Mangiapane, all in straight sets.
• Wright grabbed the first win, 6-0, 6-1, over Andrew Black.
• Djakouris followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over William Elmers to make the score 3-0.
• Jones, rated #104 in the latest ITA singles rankings, took care of Moskowitz, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the win at the No. 2 spot.
• Mangiapane completed the perfect day for the Heels with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Presser at No. 6.
