Liberal MP Dan Tehan has congratulated Angus Taylor, saying he voted for him in today’s leadership challenge.
“Obviously, what we’ve been through over the last 10 or 11 months has been incredibly difficult. A lot of challenges after the huge election defeat in May, and then obviously, with what we saw the split in the Coalition, and then we saw some fairly catastrophic polling, and you know the feedback that I was getting was that things did need to, did need to change,” Tehan told ABC television following the vote.
“There was no criticism against Sussan and what she’d done because she, you know, took on the hardest task there is in Australian politics, and that’s leader of the opposition,” he said. Tehan said Ley took to the role with dignity and respect.
Tehan called for a “serious political manifesto” to be drafted under the new leader, saying he had no doubt that Taylor and his deputy Jane Hume would have a “good vision” for the party and the country.
“I look forward to working with Angus and Jane in taking that to the Australian people.”
