Detroit Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham buys minority stake in hometown Texas Rangers

DETROIT – Detroit Pistons two-time All-Star Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake in his hometown Major League Baseball team, the Texas Rangers.

The news broke on X by ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania on Thursday (Feb. 12) ahead of All-Star weekend in Los Angeles.

Detroit Pistons All-Star and Arlington, Texas native Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake of his hometown MLB team, the Texas Rangers, he told ESPN.

The Texas native is one of the athlete-investors at Sportsology Capital Partners, which recently completed a minority investment in the Rangers.

The 24-year-old from Arlington represented the Rangers when he threw out the first pitch inside Globe Life Field during a game against the Baltimore Orioles in July of 2025.

On the hardwood, the budding star is averaging 25.3 points, 9.6 assists, and 5.6 rebounds.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, alongside teammate Jalen Duren and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, will represent the Pistons on Sunday, Feb. 15, inside the Intuite Dome in Inglewood, California, for the 75th NBA All-Star Game at 5 p.m.
