Yeah, we got a call out about eight o’clock on Tuesday night for a snake in a child’s car seat. It wasn’t actually in the car, it was on the floor of a garage and it most likely made its way from the bush up in Tramere down through a property and then into the garage. And someone had seen it go into the car seat. They then put it out on the lawn and gave a reptile rescuer a call.
Ryk Goddard
That was brave of them to pick it up and put it on the lawn. What kind of snake was it, Craig, a friendly one?
Craig Budd
No, not friendly, no, a tiger snake.
Ryk Goddard
Far out. It’s like a snake on a plane, but so much worse. So they picked up the, would you recommend doing that?
Craig Budd
Well, they said they couldn’t actually see where it was and yeah, they said it had made itself a home within the seat. So they sort of carefully picked it up. I don’t think there was a great deal of danger, but anyway, they said put it out onto the middle of the lawn so that they could, the whole family were there keeping an eye on it.
Ryk Goddard
How did you coax the snake out of the inner workings of the child seat?
Craig Budd
Spent a bit of time, probably should have recorded it. It was fun to record it. It really drove me up there. But yeah, like I said, sort of looked around. I thought, I think these people maybe lost the plot and then found that in the front of the car seat, there’s a little sort of hatch that has Velcro on it. And I think that’s for adjusting the seat belts or for fixing it down. I’d lifted that up and saw the snake sort of hidden away in there. So they said we attempted with a hook that we have to coax them out and it made its way out through another hole. We flipped the car seat over and were able to grab it with a raptor and have my son bag it for me.
