Casualty spoilers follow for Saturday’s episode (14 February), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV. This article contains storyline details that some viewers may prefer to avoid.

Casualty’s Dylan Keogh has dropped a huge bombshell on new resident Matty Linlaker, and the young doctor is hit with life-changing news. Dylan recently discovered that he is Matty’s biological dad, after realising that he went to medical school and was romantically involved with Matty’s mum.

Dylan sneakily took a DNA sample from Matty to do a paternity test and only told Stevie about the results. He previously resolved to tell Matty the truth but got cold feet when Matty remarked that his estranged dad is an alcoholic and a waste of space.

Things changed last week, however, when Matty believed his life was in danger after a training simulation went seriously wrong, Dylan came close to blurting out the truth and told his mentee that he cared deeply about him.

In today’s episode, Flynn continued to be harsh with Matty after finding out the date of the department’s re-inspection. Matty was despondent, but Kim reminded him that Dylan has his back.

Dylan, however, was keen to keep his distance, anxious that he had almost come clean about his secret. He rejected Matty’s offer of a coffee and was deliberately cold towards the resident.

The pair then worked together to treat a patient, with Dylan sternly reminding Matty to always ask for help if he needs it.

Concerned by his change in demeanour since last week, Matty asked Dylan if he’d done something wrong, but Dylan insisted that he was imagining things.

Dylan’s coldness continued during the shift, and Matty was confused so he confronted Dylan again. He urged his mentor to be honest so he knows where he stands, and as their face-off escalated, Dylan was forced to admit to Matty that he is his dad.

Matty was completely stunned as Dylan started explaining about his secret DNA test. Dylan was called away so he asked if they could talk properly later – but Matty rejected him and said that he already has a dad.

Later, Matty told Kim about this bombshell at the end of the shift and she suggested that they go to the pub, but he turned down his friend and headed out of the ED alone.

Dylan caught him as he was leaving and tried to explain things properly, but Matty was furious that he stole his DNA – and believed that Dylan was more concerned about keeping his job.

The pair resolved to carry on as normal at work, but is there any hope of them building a relationship?

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
