Fast start for both offenses

Syracuse trails 9-8 at the 15:57 mark in what’s been a good start for both offenses.

SMU has done a nice job getting the ball down low to 7-foot-2 center Samet Yigitoglu. He has four points.

Syracuse has driven the ball hard and has forced SMU into three early fouls. Two of them are on starting power forward Corey Washington who is the first player in foul trouble.

Point guard Boopie Miller also has one. Picking up another on him would be pretty big for Syracuse.

Pregame

Syracuse will use its customary starting lineup of Naithan George, JJ Staring, Nate Kingz, Donnie Freeman and Will Kyle III.

SMU will counter with Boopie Miller, BJ Edwards, Jaron Pierre Jr., Corey Washington and Samat Yigitoglu.

One of the best players and the best names in the ACC will visit the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday. Southern Methodist is led by do-it-all point guard Boobie Miller.

Miller is currently sixth in the ACC in scoring at 19.2 points per game and second in assists with 6.8. Only former SU player Quadir Copeland has more assists (6.9).

Syracuse lost twice to SMU last season although it did do a good job containing Miller, who averaged 10,5 points and 4.5 assists in those games. Those are the only two games the schools have played in their histories.

The Mustangs (17-7, 6-5 ACC) are an offensive force with all five starters averaging in double-digit scoring.

Four of them shoot better than 36.4 percent from behind the 3-point arc and the fifth is 7-foot-2 center Samet Yigitoglu.

Only Louisville is scoring more than SMU (86.5 points per game) this season, although the Mustang defense is susceptible to giving up points.

SMU is currently projected as a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament in Joe Lunardi’s most recent ESPN Bracketology.

Syracuse is 14-11 (5-7 ACC). This starts the Orange’s toughest three-game stretch in conference play this season with SMU followed by Duke and North Carolina.
