Tyler Morton’s brother has expressed his gratitude towards the Liverpool fans for being “so supportive” after the 22-year-old completed a transfer to Ligue 1 this summer. Morton has joined Olympique Lyonnaise for £15million, signing a five-year deal with the French side after spending over a decade with the Reds.
The defensive midfielder joined Liverpool’s academy aged just seven years old, working his way up to the senior team and making his competitive debut in 2021 against Norwich City. He made 14 appearances for the Reds across four years, and also spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.
Morton’s sibling Nathan has shared his love for Liverpool fans, writing a heartfelt statement on social media after the club confirmed the transfer. On X, he wrote: “Nothing will ever beat the feeling of watching my little brother play for the club we love every time he stepped on the pitch,” alongside a red heart emoji.

This sincere message was received with an outpouring of love from the Liverpool fans, with one writing: “Your brother’s a gem. Can’t wait to see him getting more minutes — he’s got everything to smash it in France!”
Another added: “Just so you know each and everyone of us at Liverpool loves Tyler. Best of luck on his new chapter.” And a third said: “Good luck for you and your family in your next stop.”
Many more kind words followed, prompting Nathan to thank all the fans for their responses to his post. He said: “Thanks everyone for your comments I’ve had a good hour reading through them all, very thankful to see everyone so supportive.”

While Morton didn’t win any major trophies with the Reds – given that he didn’t make enough appearances for the club – the 22-year-old has been successful in other areas of his career.
The midfielder was a key part of the England under-21s squad that won the Euros in Slovakia this summer. Despite being suspended for the semi-final against the Netherlands, Morton returned to the squad for the final and provided the assist for the winning goal against Germany – retaining the trophy with fellow ex-Red Jarell Quansah and current Liverpool star Harvey Elliott.
In Liverpool’s statement confirming the youngster’s exit, they also wished the midfielder well, adding: “Everyone at LFC would like to wish Tyler all the very best for the future.”

The Reds are continuing to focus on upgrading their squad with aims of future domination in the Premier League and Europe. Arne Slot has already splashed the cash this summer, spending well over a whopping £250m on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool are also considering a blockbuster move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, after having an initial bid of £110m rejected by the Magpies. Eddie Howe’s side are reportedly only willing to sell the Swede if they land Benjamin Sesko – but are currently locked in a battle with Manchester United for the RB Leipzig striker.
Despite signing some high-profile players and making some changes to the 2024/25 Premier League winning squad, boss Slot believes his team has plenty of time to develop and grow together, as he has kept a good amount of mainstays in the squad.

In an interview with The Athletic following their pre-season tour of Asia, the Dutchman said: “Yeah, but the majority of the team has stayed the same. If you look at tonight, we had a new goalkeeper (Mamardashvili), but that was for an obvious reason, as usually Alisson would play.
“We had Milos, Florian and Hugo out there, but the other seven were from last season. Of course, you have to adjust a little bit to the qualities of certain players, but we haven’t changed too much. Once, during my time at Feyenoord, we sold 14 players and had to bring in many players. That’s not the situation here.
“We have brought in a few very talented players, but the core of the group has stayed the same. These players have to make a step up again as well because our competition are not standing still.”
