A 31-year-old man has faced court on 11 charges on Sunday after two women were killed in a crash following a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west.

Police were called to a service station on King Georges Road in South Hurstville, about 10:20am on Saturday, following reports a red sedan belonging to a 25-year-old man was stolen from the scene.

Officers then spotted the alleged stolen vehicle travelling on King Georges Road near Beverly Hills, initiating a pursuit after the driver, Luke Francis, failed to stop.

The pursuit, which also included PolAir, continued along the M5 Motorway before being called off in Bankstown.

A short time later at 11:10am, the sedan crashed into an Alfa Romeo sedan on the Old Hume Highway in Camden South.

The two occupants of the Alfa Romeo — women aged 60 and 84 —  died at the scene.

Mr Francis allegedly fled the scene and was arrested on Nepean Avenue.

He was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for mandatory testing before being charged with 11 offences.

The charges include dangerous driving occasioning death, escaping pursuit, driving recklessly at speed or manner that is dangerous, failing to stop to assist a crash causing death, driving unlicensed for classes’ C, R, LR or MR, not stopping at a red light, as well as intent to take motor vehicle.

He appeared before the Bail Division Court on Sunday.

He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Police declared a critical incident on Saturday, which was later escalated to a Level 2.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
