Allan Cassin, Peter Chai Tsai, and Dave Smith share a moment after the round at Eastern Star.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Despite a forecast promising little, the rain stayed mercifully away, leaving Eastern Star in superb condition for this week’s first outing on 8 July. Spirits were high among the group, and while birdies were hard‑earned, Dave Smith delivered the standout performance of the day. Playing off a handicap of 16, Dave posted an impressive 39 Stableford points, sealing first place with authority.

Behind him, competition for second was closely fought. Peter Chai Tsai, off 28, held his nerve and edged past Allan Cassin thanks to a countback, finishing on 33 points. Stephen Ford, fresh off last week’s triumph, couldn’t find his rhythm this time and took home the society’s light‑hearted consolation prize—the wooden spoon.

Near pin honours belonged to Sam Jeffery, who claimed two, and Neale Savery, both showing precision where it mattered most.

Results: 1st – Dave Smith (16) – 39 points. 2nd – Peter Chai Tsai (28) – 33 points (countback). Near Pins: Sam Jeffery (x2), Neale Savery.

Willem Lasonder, Dave Smith, and Peter Chai Tsai celebrate another great day on the course.

Thursday, 10 July brought clear skies and ideal playing conditions at Pattaya Country Club, where the front nine presented near‑perfect fairways and greens. Fourteen golfers joined the day’s Stableford challenge, and scoring was strong across the board.

Willem Lasonder, playing off a generous 36, rose to the occasion with an excellent 39 points, proving calm and steady golf pays off. In second place, Peter Chai Tsai again featured on the podium with 37 points – once more finishing ahead of a close rival on countback, this time over Neale Savery.

Adding to the day’s positive note, Dave Lyon from Australia made a welcome return to the society’s ranks. Despite his best efforts, the spoon found its way to him, handed over in good humour.

Near pins went to Stephen Ford, Hidde Bijl, and Nigel Irving, each claiming moments of brilliance on an otherwise challenging layout.
