Carlton star Jacob Weitering has been cleared of serious injury after being stretchered off in Saturday night’s AFL State of Origin clash.
The 28-year-old was involved in a nasty incident early in the match when he was crushed by Western Australia’s Mitch Georgiades in a marking contest.
Georgiades appeared to land directly on Weitering’s ribs, and the Victorian star was in clear discomfort as medical staff rushed to his aid.

He was taken to hospital on Saturday night, but in positive news, Carlton have confirmed their vice-captain had already been discharged.
Weitering has “soreness around the chest area”, with the club saying a more accurate recovery timeline would become clear in the coming days.

“We are grateful Jacob is OK and has been cleared of any major injury – it is a positive outcome given the circumstances,” Carlton general manager Chris Davies said in a statement on Sunday.
“While Jacob is feeling sore this morning, he has avoided significant damage, so we will manage him as needed while we ramp up our preparations for the start of the season.
“Although that moment in the game was unfortunate, it does not take away from the fact that our football club is incredibly proud of both Jacob and Patrick [Cripps] for earning the honour to represent their respective states.
“It is a fantastic career achievement that both Jacob and Patrick can hold dear to them for the remainder of their careers.”
Victoria took out the clash 18.17 (125) to 15.11 (101) at a sold-out Optus Stadium.
