Stephen Amell and David Boreanaz have their next network TV roles.

David Boreanaz has been cast in the lead role of a reboot of The Rockford Files.

Boreanaz (SEAL Team, Bones, Angel) succeeds James Garner who famously starred as the private detective from 1974-1980.

Rockford is described as a “witty, world-weary and chronically broke private investigator whose charmingly gruff exterior masked a strong moral core.”

The pilot for NBC states, “Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.”

Meanwhile Stephen Amell (Arrow, Heels, Suits LA) has been cast as Hobie Buchannon, a series regular lead role of the Baywatch reboot.

“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy,” Matt Nix, executive producer and showruuner, said in a statement. “He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.”

The 12-episode series is set to premiere in the 2026-27 season from Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.

The original lifeguard drama debuted in 1989 and soon became the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries. It starred David Hasselhoff and helped kick-start the careers of Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra and Jason Momoa.
