Apple Podcasts is introducing the option to watch video podcasts on its platform, following a recent similar move from Netflix.
Launching in the second quarter of the calendar year, Apple Podcast users will soon be able to toggle between watching or listening to podcasts in the app. A horizontal, full-display option will be available, as well the ability to download shows to watch later.
SiriusXM, Simplecast, Adswizz, and Triton’s Omny Studio will partner with Apple Podcasts on launch, allowing creators to serve video ads into the shows.
This sets up Apple Podcasts as a major competitor in the growing video podcast space with not only Spotify, and Youtube — the most popular destination for video podcasts — but also Netflix, who recently started adding video podcasts to its streaming service.

Apple is slow off the mark when it comes to harnessing the shifting nature of podcast consumption towards video. Spotify first launched video podcasts on its platform in mid-2020, at first for in-house productions such as The Joe Rogan Experience, then widely in October 2021.
In March 2025, Bloomberg reported that over one billion people were watching podcasts on Youtube every month.
“Twenty years ago, Apple helped take podcasting mainstream by adding podcasts to iTunes, and more than a decade ago, we introduced the dedicated Apple Podcasts app,” Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior VP of services said in a statement.
“Today marks a defining milestone in that journey. By bringing a category-leading video experience to Apple Podcasts, we’re putting creators in full control of their content and how they build their businesses, while making it easier than ever for audiences to listen to or watch podcasts.”
