Tell Me Lies Season Three Ending Explained

There’s a lot to unpack from the Tell Me Lies season three finale ending, so let’s begin, shall we?

The first big moment sees Pippa come clean about cheating on Wrigley, who takes the news in classic Wrigley style – with grace, humour and an open heart. We love Wrigley.

Moments before, Lucy has made a similar confession, admitting to Pippa she’s the girl Evan cheated on Bree with the year prior. It’s definitely not received with grace, humour or an open heart.

So, what does Lucy do next? She goes after Stephen by trying to get him ousted from Yale during a lunch for new students. It goes as well as things usually do for Lucy, and shortly after she discovers the tape he was holding over her has been leaked. Coincidence? Yes and no.

As a result, Lucy gets expelled. It’s news that comes just as Bree confronts Evan over his night with her friend. He confesses but given everything Lucy is already dealing with, Bree asks that they keep it a secret from everyone else.

Meanwhile, Stephen gets his Yale offer rescinded when someone (we suspect Wrigley after a tense lunchroom run-in) reported him for online harassment pertaining to pornographic material.

Jump forward to 2015 and we learn Dianna ended up at Yale instead – as Wrigley points out thanks to her phone case as he poses for a photo with Pippa.

Stephen breaks up with Lydia at the wedding, admitting he cheated on her with Lucy that very morning and confessing they were only together to make her jealous.

He then confronts Bree only to realise she was the one to release the tape of Lucy as an act of revenge for sleeping with Evan.

Then, Stephen does what Stephen does best and drops bombshell secret after bombshell secret infront of everyone. While many were hoping there had been some secret plot to take Stephen down, we may have been thinking too highly of our favourite chaotic friends as the truth sees them turn on one another. In fact, this may just be the point Oppenheimer was looking to make — they’re all as deceitful and despicable as one another.

Except maybe Pippa and Diana, the only sane two, who swan out together leaving everyone to their messy drama. And, sweet angel Wrigley, who despite sleeping with his bestfriend’s wife-to-be, has always acted out of love.

In a twist we didn’t see coming, Stephen turns to Lucy and asks her to come with him, which surely saw outcry from viewers everywhere. It wasn’t just us, right?

“But I hate you” Lucy says as she tries to understand why Stephen would ask her to choose him after everything.

Turns out, she still hates herself more, because she gets in the car and they drive off together… only for him to leave her at the truck stop.

The only explanation we can deduce is the pair are stuck in a sick and twisted game where one of them is always trying to, as Lucy put it, “win”.

Do Bree and Wrigley End Up Together In Tell Me Lies?

While the show doesn’t exactly show Bree and Wrigley coming together, the final moments of the episode do imply so.

As the group tears one another apart, all the while flinging cake and copping a verbal blasting from Evan, the lovers lock eyes in a moment that sees the chaos fall silent. And deep down, we just know, they’re finally going to choose one another.
