MMA fans have voiced their opinion on Ronda Rousey’s comeback fight against Gina Carano, who is also ending her combat sports retirement.

Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix announced that a matchup once thought to be a fantasy long gone has been booked. UFC Hall of Famer Rousey and Carano will clash in a five-round MMA fight on May 16. Before Rousey, Carano was the biggest name in women’s combat sports. After Carano exited the sport, Rousey became a pioneer for women’s MMA.

Fans on social media have reacted to the news of Rousey vs. Carano, and there is some intrigue. X user MMAJAP is ready to see what transpires this spring.

J.D. had a rather interesting question about the fights that Netflix airs on its streaming service.

The actress from Fast 7 and the actress from The Mandalorian?

Why does Netflix always go for entertainers/actors?

Jon Stevens was critical of Rousey’s decision to forgo a fight on the UFC White House card in favor of a clash with Carano.

Imagine choosing this and not the White House card for your comeback

Joshua Respecki doesn’t have high expectations for the fight given how long both Rousey and Carano have been away from the cage.

I’d pay Netflix to not do this. Lol. No offense but what’s the point? Neither one is competitive anymore. I’d rather watch paint dry

Gelson Luz has an idea of who has the edge going into the fantasy battle.

I have to give the edge to Ronda Rousey in this legacy matchup. Her armbar was a true game-changer that forced everyone to level up. Carano was a pioneer, but Rousey’s impact reshaped the entire sport’s landscape.

Kheniwyze Horror has an optimistic take, although there is concern about potential post-fight antics on Rousey’s end.

I’m very interested in this one. Carano was the one who put women’s MMA on the map and Rousey took it to another level.

My only concern is Rousey losing and throwing a tantrum. I hope that she’s matured. Whatever happens today doesn’t change the fact that she’s a legend.

In a press release sent out by MVP and Netflix, Carano discussed how the bout with Rousey came to fruition.

“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us,” said Gina Carano. “She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.”
