Tell Me Lies features several onscreen couples who are also together in real life.Co-stars Grace Van Patten and Jackson White have been together since 2022.Fellow cast members Spencer House and Sonia Mena are also dating, as are Branden Cook and Katherine Hughes.
While Tell Me Lies fans continue to mourn the fact that season 3 will be its last, at least one silver lining remains: many of the drama’s onscreen couples also happen to be together in real life. Indeed, the star-studded cast of the Hulu drama contains three off-screen couples, with a fourth being that of showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer and her husband Tom Ellis. Perhaps most notably, Grace Van Patten and Jackson White, who play Lucy and Stephen, have been an item since 2022.
“It’s our couple’s therapy,” Van Patten once said of how their onscreen relationship eafects their dynamic IRL. “It’s like, we get to fight and let it all out on-camera, and then we’re great.”

Elsewhere in the Tell Me Lies universe, fellow cast members Spencer House and Sonia Mena are dating, as are Branden Cook and Katherine Hughes. Catherine Missal and Alicia Crowder, meanwhile, are both single. And then there’s newcomer Iris Apatow—daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann—who is currently coupled up with The White Lotus star Sam Nivola.

As evidenced by that laundry list of names, then, there will no shortage of love stories to follow after the finale of Tell Me Lies. Ahead, here’s everything you need to know about the real life relationships of the show’s star-studded cast.

Grace Van Patten and Jackson White met shortly after auditioning for season 1 back in 2022. The introduction wasn’t exactly love at first sight, however. “I didn’t like Jackson,” the actress revealed during an interview with Alex Cooper. But when they met in person for another audition, he had “a completely different energy,” which drew her to him.
Fast forward a few months, and Van Patten and White were officially set to play onscreen couple Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco. Though they initially planned to keep their relationship a secret, the chemistry was so palpable that their co-stars basically “knew right away.”
In 2024, Van Patten upped the ante by confirming in an interview with People that she and White were “together in real life.” She also explained that both actors are “wildly different” from the characters they play in Tell Me Lies.
“It makes me feel so safe and so comfortable and able to go there [on set] and be vulnerable, because I’m so comfortable with him,” she told the publication. “And that part of it was so beautiful.”
As for the toxicity of their fictional onscreen relationship? “I hope it’s a cautionary tale to get out of something like that, and also to not feel shame about being in something like that,” Van Patten said.

Spencer House and Sonia Mena have played onscreen couple Wrigley and Pippa since day one, but it wasn’t until 2025 that their real-life relationship was made public thanks to a source who spoke to People. Tell Me Lies makeup artist Jenny Lin likewise shared the news in an interview with the Substack publication Love Letters. Neither House nor Mena has actually commented publicly on their partnership, however.
“[Spencer] and Sonia, who plays Pippa, are together in real life, and they’re just so nice,” Lin said. “It’s so cute to have one big family, and we all love each other.”

The third couple in the Tell Me Lies universe is, of course, Branden Cook and Katherine Hughes, who play Evan and Molly, respectively, and who date onscreen amid a rather messy love triangle. Last October, Cook proposed to Hughes while the two were on vacation in Japan.
“People are really nice and really sweet when they see us together and they kind of put the pieces together,” he told People. “It’s really sweet.”
Following the premiere of season 3 of Tell Me Lies, Cook and Hughes stepped out together with co-stars Sonia Mena and Spencer House for a handful of events during New York Fashion Week.

Catherine Missal, who plays Lucy’s best friend Bree, is the third member of Evan and Molly’s onscreen love triangle. In reality, however, Missal appears to be single. The New Jersey-born actress has kept the details of her private life out of the spotlight, though she’s quick to gush about her (platonic) relationships with her coworkers.
“Grace and I have a really great relationship,” Missal once said of Van Patten. “So I think with everyone in the cast, it’s really about playing off of our real-life chemistry, and it’s so helpful when that works out. We’ve been so grateful for all of us on this show to be working with each other that I think it just added this depth and dynamic between us.”
Alicia Crowder

Like Missal, Alicia Crowder has not shared any details about her dating life with the public. In the Tell Me Lies universe, meanwhile, she’s plenty busy playing Stephen’s on-again, off-again girlfriend Diana.
“I always feel blindsided, and I always think, should I have seen this coming?” She said of the evolving dynamic between the two characters. “But no, the writers get me every time.”
Tom Ellis

Tom Ellis joined the cast of Tell Me Lies in season 2 as Oliver, a married Baird professor who is having an affair with Bree. IRL, he’s been happily coupled up with showrunner and executive producer Meaghan Oppenheimer for over a decade. The longtime duo began dating in 2015, tied the knot in 2019, and welcomed a daughter named Dolly Ellis-Oppenheimer in November 2023.
“We really weirdly work very, very well together,” Oppenheimer told People in 2024. “I think it’s funnier for other people because—spoiler—everyone is naked on our show and he is as well. And I think some people at first were like, ‘Is this weird for you guys?’ And it’s so not weird for us.”
Ellis likewise told the publication that “it’s never been a problem for us,” adding, “I think we have a huge amount of respect for each other creatively. And I think she’s really, really talented at what she does, and she’s really, really good at talking to actors.”

Iris Apatow was one of a group of “complicated” characters who joined the cast of Tell Me Lies for season 3. Per Deadline, she plays Amanda, a “bubbly but fragile college freshman keeping a big secret.” Elsewhere, you might recognize her as the girlfriend of The White Lotus star Sam Nivola. The duo’s relationship was made public in 2024 when Apatow joined Nivola in Thailand while he was on set.
“I brought my girlfriend for a few months, which was amazing,” the actor later told People. “It was so great to have a taste of home because it was 10,000 miles away from home, and it was so nice of her to sacrifice that time to come be with me and I’m incredibly grateful to her.”
Both Nivola and Apatow are technically nepo babies, a label they readily claim. Apatow, of course, is the daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann; Nivola, meanwhile, is the son of The Brutalist actor Alessandro Nivola and actress Emily Mortimer.
