Do not let that unassuming title fool you, gentle reader. For behind its placid visage lurks what seems to be a staggeringly violent roaring rampage of revenge, as Priyanka Chopra’s former pirate is roused to action by the sudden appearance of her former captain, Karl Urban.

What is The Bluff about?

Set in the Caribbean in the 19th century, The Bluff sees Priyanka Chopra’s Ercell living a pretty tranquil life with her loving family on a secluded island, only for the wheels to come off when her former shipmate, Karl Urban’s Captain Connor, fronts up with a boat full of bad guys and revenge on his mind. As it turns out, Ercell used to be a bad ‘un back in the day, as we can see in the trailer when she absolutely butchers pretty much everyone the hapless captain sends after her.

Why we’re excited about The Bluff

“What if Timo Tjahjanto directed a Pirates of the Caribbean movie?” is not a question that’s ever come to mind before. But the vibe here feels like exactly that: hyper-violent historical action that certainly doesn’t skimp on gore. And given that director Frank E. Flowers is Caymanian, it should be a lot more historically grounded than anything Disney’s thrown our way.
