ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Navy men’s tennis team lost a pair of matches on Friday as the Mids (10-8) lost a 4-3 match to Drexel (5-1) in Annapolis and a 7-0 decision at William & Mary (2-3).
Navy won the doubles point against the Dragons to take a 1-0 lead. Steve Nguyen and Jake Young combined for a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles, then Herrick Legaspi and Charlie Spencer won a 7-6 match at the No. 2 flight.
The Mids took a 2-0 lead when Jason Kim won a 6-1, 6-2 match at No. 6 singles, but the Dragons won the next three matches to take a 3-2 lead. Spencer evened the match at 3-3 when his opponent, Tarek Mo Erlewein, was forced to retire with the score tied at 5-5 in the third set of their No. 1 singles match. Drexel then won a three-set match at the No. 1 flight to win the afternoon,
The doubles point between the Mids and the Tribe went down to the third and final match left on the courts. Navy’s win came at the No. 2 flight when Lachlan Buckingham and Ethan Garcia won a 6-1 match.
Navy will be back in the Tose Family Tennis Center Sunday for matches against Bryant and Temple.
