Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but former NBA player-turned-analyst Kendrick Perkins is doubting the Warriors.
On Friday’s episode of “First Take,” the oft-controversial commentator was asked whether or not four-time NBA champion Steph Curry can win another title with Golden State. Unsurprisingly, Perkins doesn’t appear to have much faith.
“The days of Steph Curry actually having a shot of winning another championship in Golden State, those days are over,” Perkins declared. “Those days are over. I don’t see — the only hope that he had was for them to be aggressive and try to go get Giannis Antetokounmpo. And from my understanding, the Bucks wanted no part in what they were trying to offer, because I heard they were trying to throw Draymond Green in the deal, which probably blew up the whole damn deal.
“Milwaukee probably said we’re good for those type of dollars.”
Perkins already bashed the Warriors’ trade-deadline acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis, and he’s not optimistic that Golden State can improve significantly in the coming offseason to compete in a crowded Western Conference.
“I’m just keeping it real,” Perkins continued. “And so when you think about where they are and what’s going to be on the market for them to go get, we don’t know what Jimmy Butler at his age is going to come back looking like off an ACL injury. Draymond Green is done when it comes down to actually being a guy that could give you actual production. Especially with the dollars that he’s making, he’s not delivering.
“Steph Curry, it’s a damn shame because Steph is playing at an all-time high. What guy is going to be free that you could go get to pair along Steph that’s going to actually move the needle? Because I’m gonna say this, [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander] — he ain’t going nowhere. Anthony Edwards not going nowhere. [Victor Wembenyama], [Nikola Jokic], all of these guys, [Luka Doncic], are still in the Western Conference.
“So, with not being able to go get Giannis and watching the production that’s around him right now, the pieces that he got, they’re dead birds, tall grass. Those days are over for Steph winning the championship in Golden State.”
Of course, this is far from the first time that Perkins has declared the end of the Warriors’ dynasty with Curry.
The question is now, can the Warriors prove Big Perk wrong yet again?
