EXCLUSIVE: When Steve and Rebecca said “I do”, it was dubbed as one of the most romantic weddings in MAFS history.
But things quickly began to turn sour when the two realised they simply didn’t mesh.

Now, looking back on Steve’s audition tape, their differences couldn’t be clearer.

“I’m selfish,” the 50-year-old admits with a chuckle when asked about his flaws.
“I have been selfish in the past; I just seem to do whatever I want to do still.”
While he doesn’t shy away from the fact that it’s been an issue in past relationships, Steve says that he doesn’t have any interest in changing.

“I don’t know how easily that is to change. I don’t think you should have to change at this age,” he says.
“At 50, let’s fast forward to, I don’t know, 75 – I don’t want to spend the next 25 years of my life going to therapy trying to change who I am.”

In his tape, Steve shares that he was once married, but it fell apart because of some of his tendencies at the time.
“I was like a dad for the first time, and I just went out and drank,” he explains.
“I had friends that probably didn’t have my back. They kind of should have sent me home, and they didn’t. I think it just wore thin.”

Eighteen months later, when he met a woman who “didn’t really drink”, he thought he’d found someone who could “straighten him out”.
The pair got engaged, but ultimately, that also came to an end.
“No one could straighten me out in the end,” he laughs.
Steve chuckled over his flaws in his interviews, and says he has no interest in changing. (Nine)
He also shares that he has four kids, one with his ex-wife and three with another partner. But he’s quick to assure that his life isn’t as hectic as four kids might make it sound.
“It sounds like, ‘Shit, you’ve got four kids, that’s a handful’. But that’s not what you’re sort of getting into by dating me,” he says.
“I’m around all four kids five weeks of the year, so there’s 47 weeks of the year I’m literally by myself.
“If I could be out every day of the week, eating and drinking and just socialising, that’s what I would do.”
