FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Red Sox open their Grapefruit League schedule Saturday with a 1:05 p.m. road game against the Twins across town at Hammond Stadium.
Roman Anthony will lead off for Boston. The Red Sox lineup also includes two offseason trade additions, Willson Contreras and Andruw Monasterio, and two free agent additions, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Brendan Rodgers.
The Red Sox acquired Contreras in a trade with St. Louis on Dec. 21. He’s playing first base and batting cleanup. In January, manager Alex Cora identified Contreras as his cleanup hitter.
Boston acquired Monasterio along with Caleb Durbin and Anthony Seigler in a six-player trade with the Brewers on Feb. 9.
Monasterio will play third base and bat seventh. He’s impressed Cora during camp.
“You see him from afar or whatever, but then you see him here, it’s like, ‘Oh, shoot,’” Cora said earlier this week. “He can move. He’s versatile. He can hit lefties. Now we have to work with him because I think it’s a different mindset offensively, what they do over there to what we do here. I truly believe that there’s more from the three guys (acquired in the trade).”
The Red Sox signed Kiner-Falefa to a one-year, $6 million deal and inked Rodgers to a minor league contract. Rodgers, who has right-handed power and 495 games of major league experience, has a real shot to make the Opening Day roster.
Left-hander Payton Tolle will start on the mound for Boston opposite Twins ace Joe Ryan.
The game will air on NESN.
