Gold medal up for grabs in the men’s curlingA man in a white shirt stands with a white shirt on(Getty Images)

We are underway in the men’s curling gold medal match.

It’s Great Britain vs Canada in Cortina, with this Olympics’ pantomime villain, Marc Kennedy, lining up for the Canadians.

For those of you in need of a refresher, Kennedy was the athlete who responded hotly to accusations of cheating during his country’s preliminary round clash with Sweden, setting in motion what is surely curling’s greatest and most publicised controversy.

Canada is 1-0 up after the first end.

We’ll keep you updated.

‘It means everything’: Woods honoured by flagbearer nodAn athlete in a yellow ski jacket holds a gold medal and smiles, wearing green beanie(Getty Images)

Mogul skier Cooper Woods says it “means everything” to be named as one of Australia’s flag bearers for the Closing Ceremony.

Woods claimed gold in the opening week of the Games, becoming Australia’s seventh Winter Olympic champion and setting in motion his country’s most successful Games off all-time.

“It means everything,” Woods said.

“I said this yesterday, it means more than the medals, all the glory, the fame.

“This is one of the best things you can do in sport, wave the flag for your country, so super excited.”

He will share the honour with silver medallist Danielle Scott, who achieved a maiden Olympic podium finish in the women’s aerial skiing.

Polish speed skater recovering from nasty cutKamila Sellier receives treatment.(AP)

Polish short track speed skater Kamila Sellier says she is “doing quite okay” after suffering a bad cut to her face in a crash.

Sellier appeared to be hit by a skate close to her eye in a fall during a quarter-final of the women’s 1,500 metres on Saturday morning AEDT.

She needed lengthy treatment before being taken away on a stretcher from the Milano Ice Skating Arena.

A white sheet was held up when she was being treated on the ice to prevent the silent crowd from seeing the extent of her injury.

She was later admitted to hospital for further treatment.

“I know that one day I’ll look at this picture and remember that I’m stronger than I ever believed,” the 25-year-old posted on Instagram.

“Thank you for all your words of support, just wanted to let you know that I’m doing quite okay,” she added.

In the picture she appeared to be wearing a hospital gown and did not display the side of her face where she sustained the injury.

Australia’s Indra Brown will have to wait to compete for her first Olympic medal, with the final of the women’s freeski halfpipe being delayed due to heavy snowfall in Livigno.

Organisers say they have been unable to “prepare the pipe in a safe and fair condition”.

Originally scheduled for 5:30am AEDT, the event is now slated to take place this evening Australian time.

16-year-old Brown was the fourth best qualifier for the final, ahead of defending champion Eileen Gu.

Canada defeated the United States 10-7 to claim women’s curling bronze, as skip Rachel Homan ended her long wait for a Games medal.

Homan punched the air and embraced teammate Tracy Fleury after her counterpart Tabitha Peterson conceded with one throw remaining.

For Canada, the bronze was their first medal in the women’s event since the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Switzerland and Sweden face off for the gold on Sunday evening AEDT.

Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands won the men’s mass start title, securing the second Olympic gold medal of his career.

The 40-year-old joined Dane Viktor Hald Thorup in a two-man breakaway early in the final, before launching an audacious sprint with two laps to go.

The ploy paid off, with the mullet-wearing Bergsma winning his first Olympic gold since claiming the 10,000m crown at the 2014 Sochi Games.

He even had time to slow down in the final straightaway, as he celebrated his victory with the crowd cheering on.

Hald Thorup held on for silver, with Italy’s Andrea Giovannini leading home the chasing pack to scoop the bronze.

Germany’s bobsleigh dominance

The Germans seem to have a super strong bobsled culture. Has it always been this way? Ch 9 commentator brought up how the technology in their bobsleds is better than most other teams, but I would’ve thought that all Bobsleds would have to meet the same specifications as to avoid unfair advantages. What does this mean.

– German bobsleds

Germany’s strength in bobsleigh goes back decades.

Before the German reunification in 1990, East and West were among the giants of the sport.

At recent Olympics, Germany won three of the four gold medals on offer in 2022, in addition to three silver and a bronze.

In 2018, Germany shared the two-man gold, and won the four-man and two-woman events.

Technology dominates the two and four-person events, but the monobob uses standardised sleds.

The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation’s website explains this as follows:

As the only Olympic bobsleigh discipline featuring standardised sleds, monobob reduces the technical barriers, making elite competition more accessible to emerging nations and first-time participants.

Canada yet to reveal if Crosby will play finalSidney Crosby playing at the Winter Olympics.(Getty Images)

Canada has not decided whether injured captain Sidney Crosby will play in the gold-medal game at the Olympics against the United States.

Crosby skated in practice, which was closed to reporters to maintain a shroud of secrecy around the status of the 38-year-old centre who is the most decorated player on the team with two Olympic gold medals and three Stanley Cup rings.

“Obviously we’d love to have him,” Canada coach Jon Cooper said.

“He won’t put himself in harm’s way and he’s not going to put the team in harm’s way.”

Crosby left the quarterfinal against Czechia with an apparent right knee injury and did not play against Finland in the semis.

‘Absolute joke’: Canadian freestyle skier on today’s conditions

Conditions have been tough in Livigno today, with the snow really coming down.

In the men’s ski cross, any athletes from Canada failed to reach the big final.

One of the country’s stars, Reece Howden, couldn’t hide his frustration at the event not being rescheduled.

“Honestly, the weather is ridiculous. I don’t know what the times are but it’s gotta be like 10 to 15 seconds slower. It’s a completely different course,” he told Canadian Olympic broadcaster, CBC, not mincing his words.

“It’s snowing so hard and the track is dead slow. At this point I’m happy I’m not involved in this (final) race because … this is not ski cross.
This is terrible.

“Olympics is supposed to be the best of the best. The peak of our sport. I’ll wait four more years because this is an absolute joke.”

Aus to be well represented in two-woman bobsleigh (up later)

If you’re taking a nap between the Aussies in action, make sure to set your alarms for 5am AEDT. That’s when Australia will be well represented in the two-woman bobsleigh.

It’s the first time Australia as fielded two 2-woman bobsleigh teams at the same Games.

After heats one and two, Walker and Reddingius finished in 10th place, while Blizzard and Johnson in 19th.

In the final heats, run three will be contested in current place order, while only the top 20 sleds will advance to the fourth and deciding heat, which will run from slowest to fastest.

3h agoSat 21 Feb 2026 at 2:29pmFrance claims biathlon gold and silverOcéane Michelon celebrates winning Olympic god.(Reuters)

France’s Océane Michelon stormed through the last lap to win gold in a spine-tingling women’s mass start race, as the final biathlon event delivered a blockbuster ending in the snow.

Michelon’s compatriot Julia Simon employed every ounce of her physical and mental strength over the last few hundred metres to take silver ahead of Czech Tereza Voborníková, who claimed a well-deserved bronze.

However, no-one looked more stunned than 23-year-old Michelon when she crossed the finish line to win by a margin of 6.6 seconds after a brilliant final lap in which she ground down Voborníková before obliterating her over the last kilometre.

The gold was her second of the Games after victory in the mixed relay — and she also picked up a silver in the sprint — but the victory was entirely of her own making as she staked her claim to be the next dominant name in the sport.

Bobsleigh marred by three crashesAustria crashes in four-man bobsleigh.(AP)

It’s been a relatively crash-free Olympics in all three sliding sports — skeleton, luge and bobsled.

That was until day 15, when the second heat of the four-man bobsleigh was marred by three crashes.

The second heat was delayed for about 20 minutes after Austrian pilot Jakob Mandlbauer lost control of his sled and crashed around the midpoint of the track.

Mandlbauer was taken off the track on a stretcher and brought by ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

There was no immediate word on the severity of his injuries. Austrian officials said he had movement in his extremities.

Also crashing were the French, driven by Romain Heinrich, and Trinidad and Tobago, whose sled is piloted by Axel Brown.

Because their sleds didn’t cross the finish line, they won’t be racing when the event resumes Sunday.

The three German teams hold down the provisional podium spots after the second heat.

5h agoSat 21 Feb 2026 at 1:17pmWhat are Aussies Indra Brown’s chances in the halfpipe?

Does Cassie Sharpe being unable to compete in the event perhaps strengthen Indra’s chances a bit more for a medal? Don’t get me wrong, I’m obviously more concerned about her being healthy above all else. The woman is a 2 time medalist and a world champion though. She’s a very strong snowboarder.

– Anton

Australian teen freeski sensation Indra Brown may only be 16, but she’s already catching the eye of some big names in her sport.

Earlier this week, the halfpipe defending champion Eileen Gu said the young Aussie was ‘the real deal’.

If she has the ski of her life later in the final, she could very well be leaving Milano Cortina with a medal.

That, of course, is made easier with Canada’s Cassie Sharpe out of contention after a nasty crash in the qualifications.

Sharpe, as you rightly point out Anton, is a quality freeskier. The 33-year-old is one of the sport’s greats, having won gold in PyeongChang in 2018 and silver in 2022.
