With a revamped coaching staff and 32 fresh faces, redshirt junior Tyler Hughes gets his shot to lead the Tribe into 2025.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary football is turning the page to a new chapter this season — and change is everywhere you look.

The Tribe has a new offensive coordinator in Winston October, who makes the move from rival Richmond to Williamsburg. He’s not the only fresh face: 32 newcomers have joined the roster as Head Coach Mike London, a Hampton native, continues building his program with a “next man up” mentality.

“Your personal. Your physical. Your mental health…all those things like that and I think when you pour into kids and show that you do care about them,” he said. “Then when it’s time for them to make a decision do I go or do I stay, hopefully you get the benefit of them staying.”

Offensive lineman Ryan McKenna added, “Just making sure everyone is in agreement,” he said. “We lost a lot of players who had done a lot of great things here, but who’s to say we don’t have the next guy.”

That mindset will be immediately tested under center. With the graduations of veteran quarterbacks Darius Wilson and Hollis Mathis, redshirt junior Tyler Hughes now steps into the starter’s role. For Hughes, it’s a golden opportunity to take ownership of this team and guide William & Mary into a new era of Tribe football.

“This is a testament of Coach London and the things that I’ve done in the past to put me in the position that I am today. It’s more exciting to lead.”
