Sigma 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary APS-C Lens Released

Sigma has just released a new lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras: the 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary. This lens will be available in three mounts: Canon RF, Sony E-Mount, and FUJIFILM X-Mount. This compact wide-angle lens has a manual aperture ring, except for the Canon RF version, which has a control ring. So, let’s take a closer look at this compact prime lens!

Following the launch of the 12mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary in August 2025, Japanese lens manufacturer Sigma continues to expand its DC APS-C mirrorless lens lineup. Indeed, while the company already had a 16mm F/1.4 DC DN Contemporary prime lens, the DC Contemporary lineup is only available in three different lens mounts – Sony E-Mount, Canon RF, and FUJIFILM X-Mount – but is more compact and lighter. In short, the new SIGMA 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary is not a replacement for the 16mm F/1.4, as both lenses are part of different lineups.

Sigma 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary – features

The 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary is quite compact and lightweight, with a diameter of 64mm (2.5″) and a length that varies by model, up to 65.1mm (2.6″) for the FUJIFILM X-Mount version, and a weight of 225g (7.9oz). This lens covers APS-C sensors, giving you the full frame equivalent of a 22.5mm lens.

The lens is dust- and splash-resistant, making it ideal for daily use. On the outside, you’ll find a manual focus ring and a manual aperture ring with an “A” position to control the aperture via your camera. Please note that a user-assignable Control Ring replaces the aperture ring on the Canon RF version.

On the inside, the 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary features a stepping motor for fast, silent, and precise autofocus performances. According to Sigma, focus breathing is minimal as “the lens is designed to minimize changes in the angle of view caused by focusing, enabling smooth, natural-looking focus pulls when recording video.”

The optical design of the 15mm F/1.4 DC Contemporary consists of 13 elements in 11 groups, including one FLD glass element, three SLD glass elements, and three double-sided aspherical lenses to reduce chromatic aberrations, control distortion and spherical aberrations, and improve sharpness.

The front lens element features a water and oil-repellent coating to make cleaning easier. It has a 9-blade aperture diaphragm, the front filter size is 58mm, and the minimum focusing distance is 17.7cm (7″).
