DENVER – University of Denver men’s tennis players Samuel Rovai, Aaron Beduhn and Raffaello Papajcik were combined to sweep the weekly Summit League men’s tennis awards, the Summit League announced on Tuesday.
Rovai captured the Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honor while Beduhn and Papajcik were together recognized as the Kwik Star Summit League Doubles Peak Team of the Week.
Rovai went 2-0 in singles over the weekend, starting with a victory in three sets against DePaul as part of Denver’s eventual 5-2 win in a neutral-site match on February 21. His win put DU within a point of the overall win. He then backed it up with a straight-sets victory at No. 2 singles during Denver’s match at No. 54-ranked Northwestern, clinching the win with a 7-0 performance in a second-set tiebreak.
Beduhn/Papajcik also went a perfect 2-0 last week, posting matching 6-3 victories against DePaul and then at No. 54 Northwestern. In both cases, the Pioneers had Denver’s first doubles win of the day, and their win at NU put Denver on even terms with the host team on DU’s way to clinching the doubles point.
This is Rovai’s second career weekly award from the Summit League but his first as the singles Peak Performer of the Week. Beduhn/Papajcik have now earned the Doubles Peak Team of the Week nod in two of the last three weeks. Beduhn now owns two Summit League weekly awards while Papajcik is up to six combined honors.
This is the second sweep for the Denver men’s team in the last three weeks. Denver doubles teams have won four of the first six awards including three in a row while Papajcik adds two more awards for DU as a singles player of the week.
Denver returns to the state of Colorado for two matches, starting by hosting No. 57 BYU on Friday, February 27, at 12 p.m. MT. DU will close the weekend with a trip to Air Force on Sunday, March 1, at 11 a.m. MT.
