Actor Mala Parvathi has strongly criticised the case filed against Shwetha Menon, stating that it is part of a politically driven conspiracy related to the upcoming AMMA elections. She alleged that both Shwetha and fellow actor Kukku Parameswaran are being targeted as part of a broader power struggle within the association.
Shwetha is contesting for the post of President, while Kukku is in the race for General Secretary. If elected, they would become the first women to hold these top positions in AMMA’s history.
In a statement shared online, Mala said the attacks began with Kukku and have now intensified against Shwetha. She urged the public to view the matter not merely as an internal dispute, but as a deliberate attempt to sideline strong female candidates. She described the situation as a power tussle in which “two women are being sacrificed,” and called on both Shwetha and Kukku to consider taking legal action against what she believes is a malicious conspiracy.
When contacted by Onmanorama, Kukku Parameswaran declined to comment on the matter. As a candidate in the election, she explained that AMMA’s bylaws discourage public statements during the campaign period, and she would remain silent until the results are officially declared.
Actor Ansiba Hassan, who has been elected as Joint Secretary in the newly formed AMMA leadership, also said she had been advised not to make any remarks regarding the issue until the results are announced on August 15.
Reflecting on AMMA’s growth, Mala credited actors like Mohanlal and Mammootty for their leadership, along with the support of other members, in helping build a strong financial and welfare base for the association. She said the organisation’s funds have been used effectively for members’ health and wellbeing.
However, she pointed out that with Mohanlal stepping down from his leadership role, the contest to fill the top positions has intensified. Mala alleged that some senior members, having misread their own chances, are now resorting to extreme measures to discredit their opponents. She claimed that serious and false allegations are being levelled against those who are seen as likely winners.
In a separate media interaction, Mala said that although Shwetha is not under personal mental distress, the case filed against her is clearly a reflection of the growing cancel culture. She also suggested that actor Baburaj may be involved in the controversy, adding that several people are afraid of him and suspect his role in the developments.
Mala further revealed that she too has received threats for speaking out. She said she was warned to stay silent but chose to go public because she felt the issue had become too serious to ignore.
What initially appeared to be a minor election-related controversy, Mala warned, has now taken a disturbing turn. She noted that a non-bailable case has been filed against Shwetha, based on charges that had already been dismissed by the courts, and called the move deeply concerning.
