Tammy Slaton is opening up about a deeply personal chapter in her health journey, and fans of 1000-Lb Sisters are getting a candid look at what she’s been navigating behind the scenes.
After months of emotional ups and downs — and heartfelt encouragement from her girlfriend, Andrea — Slaton made the decision to seek therapy and revisit her medications with her doctors. What followed was a revelation that helps explain much of the turmoil she had been experiencing.
Following blood work, Slaton’s medical team discovered her prescriptions were no longer properly aligned with her dramatically changed body.
“It was such a high dose for my bigger body, and now that I’m not so big, it was too high for my body size,” Slaton shared with producers.
According to the TLC star, the imbalance had a serious impact on her mental health.
“It just kinda put me in a manic depression state and it was making me have a mental breakdown,” she explained.
For months, Slaton said she felt “stressed out, overwhelmed, just every emotion possible.” She also described moments where anger would completely take over.
“Whenever I got mad, I would black out and say things that wasn’t me,” she admitted.
Those struggles began to ripple into her personal life, leading to tension with both her family and Andrea. Viewers saw the effects play out when Slaton skipped a family trip to New Orleans — a stark contrast to her past enthusiasm, as her brother Chris Combs pointed out. In earlier seasons, he noted, Slaton would have been the first one packed and ready.
Ultimately, the 1000-Lb Sister star’s doctors made significant adjustments.
“They took me off five prescriptions that I didn’t need anymore and lowered the rest of them,” she revealed.
While the changes mark an important step forward, Slaton acknowledged the transition hasn’t been instant.
“I’m still trying to get used to my new medication,” she said. “So I still don’t feel like myself.”
Fans can follow Slaton’s journey on 1000-Lb Sisters. New episodes air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
