The Perth Bears have secured their 14th player, confirming that experienced forward Scott Sorensen will join the club for the 2027 NRL season.
Sorensen, who turns 33 in March, brings a wealth of experience and pedigree to the expansion franchise. A four-time premiership winner with the Penrith Panthers, the Kiwi international shapes as a cornerstone signing for Perth as they prepare to enter the competition in 12 months.
If he remains injury free in 2027, Sorensen is also set to surpass the 150-game NRL milestone, adding further weight to his leadership credentials.
Premiership Pedigree Heads West
Sorensen has built a reputation as one of the most reliable edge forwards in the game. His toughness, defensive work rate and big-match experience were key components of Penrith’s dominant era, where he played a role in four premiership triumphs.
For a brand-new franchise, having a player with that level of finals and grand final exposure is invaluable.
Among the current crop of Perth signings, Sorensen stands as the most experienced player secured to date, immediately placing him in contention to become the club’s inaugural captain when they take the field in 2027.
His professionalism and big-game temperament could prove critical in shaping the Bears’ identity during their foundation season.
Leadership Candidate for Inaugural Season
Expansion clubs often look for hardened winners to set standards from day one — and Sorensen fits that mould perfectly.
With a young and developing squad being assembled, the veteran forward’s experience could guide the club both on and off the field. Should he be appointed skipper, Sorensen would become the first captain in the modern-era history of the Perth Bears.
