The Finnish star reportedly sustained right ankle and right hip injuries during a team practice.
In the wake of the recent injury news about Lauri Markkanen, the NBA is doing its due diligence to assess the true condition of the Utah Jazz star.
According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the league office will be sending independent doctors to verify Markkanen’s injury.
It was revealed on Wednesday that Markkanen sustained injuries in practice and will undergo an MRI to check his right ankle and right hip.
He has been listed as questionable to play already on Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
The NBA’s plans to go after Markkanen’s injury are indeed intriguing, considering it slapped the franchise with a hefty $500,000 fine earlier this month for resting healthy players and alleged tanking of games.Â
Utah already ruled out Jaren Jackson Jr. (knee), Vince Williams Jr. (ACL) and Jusuf Nurkic (nose) for the remainder of the season.
The Jazz are currently 13th in the West standings with an 18-40 record.
