Major memory brand SanDisk has announced the launch of its next-generation portable SSD portfolio. This comes at a time when the RAM and NAND market it is experiencing extreme pricing pressure caused by demand from the expansion of AI data centers. The new lineup consists of three tiers and is designed to support larger file sizes, AI content and the demanding digital workflows used by content creators and media professionals.
The portfolio includes the SanDisk Portable SSD, SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD and the top-of-the-range SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD. Delivering nearly twice the speed of its predecessor and enhanced durability, the new SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available today. The full portfolio of storage products will roll out later in 2026

The SanDisk portable SSD portfolio has been designed to deliver meaningful performance updates, with each product able to support the ever-increasing volume of AI-generated content and different workloads, including day-to-day backups, creative projects, and professional workflows.
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is designed for creative, photo and video enthusiasts, and professionals working with larger files. It delivers high-performance portable storage with read speeds of up to 2,000MB/s which means common tasks like transferring up to 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds, making it well-suited for creative projects and moving content efficiently across devices.
The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD is aimed at professional photographers, filmmakers, and designers and is built to support demanding creative and multi-stream workflows, including real-time editing and working with high-resolution media. The drive has transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. In practice, that means it can move up to 10 minutes of 12K video in just under a minute.

The entry-level SanDisk Portable SSD is designed for students, office workers and family archivists, providing reliable, portable storage for everyday digital content. Built for users who need a simple way to back up files, store photos and videos, and manage personal data The drive can achieve read speeds of up to 1,000MB/s in a compact, easy-to-carry design intended for use at home, school or on the go.

Each of the new SanDisk offerings has a durable design. The SanDisk Portable SSD has a projected drop protection of up to two meters, while the SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Extreme PRO SSDs are resistant to drops of up to three meters. They also have an IP65 waterproof rating. The SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Extreme PRO SSDs include password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available now and shipping globally, with pricing starting at $259.99 for 1TB, with 2TB and 4TB capacities also available. A 500GB version of the SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD will be available in the second half of 2026. The products include a five-year limited warranty. Also available in the second half of 2026 will be the SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD in 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities with a five-year limited warranty. The SanDisk Portable SSD will be available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities with a three-year limited warranty.
